OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Tours are being offered for groups to come to the farm to tour of our facilities.  The tour includes our many  greenhouses, chicken houses, compost piles, our  overflowing nursery, and around to the outdoor gardens.  We will share ideas and answer questions.

After the tour, refreshing herbal tea and a tranquil breeze await you when you return to the shady terrace.

A nutritious, live-giving lunch is available upon request. All of the dishes are prepared fresh for you using our organic vegetables, spices, chicken and eggs grown and raised on the farm.  Menu included:  Mixed Green Salad with Sunflower Sprouts, Kale Salad with Asian Dressing and Toasted Almond Slices, Collard Wraps with Spicy Thai Peanut Sauce, Deviled Eggs, Chicken Salad with Dates, Pecans and Maple Syrup, and dessert was Almond Joys and Seeds Delight, both made with healthy coconut oil.  It’s a always a pleasure to prepare and share our love of food.

A mouth-water desert tops off the experience and lets you leave satisfied and uplifted, having visited the farm.

Visiting on the Terrace

We enjoyed having the Love to Garden Club visit the farm on  June 24th.  Refreshments were served after a walking tour that included  the 4 greenhouses already in production, the 5th greenhouse that is currently being planted with tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers (we are growing these in bags), the compost production area, brooder house with 10 day old chicks, plantains and banana area, and section 1 where we are growing under t-frames to protect the cucumbers, pole beans and spinach from the heavy rains.  Refreshments included fresh lemon grass tea, tomatoes with pesto, peppers with guacamole, and chicken salad served on lettuce, kale and bok choy leaves.

The First Busload of Visitors to the Farm April 9, 2010

Heading Down to the Greenhouses

This was our first bus load of people to visit the farm.  They are  farmers from Panama City that have come to the area to visit organic farms and also to see our greenhouses built with bamboo.

Bamboo is a good and a much cheaper resource to build greenhouses with than metal is.  We plan to grow our own bamboo in the future.

Our team has worked hard harvesting and transporting the hundreds of bamboo canes we have used to build these greenhouses.   They are ready to pull the plastic on the 4th greenhouse now.  Then water gets installed, we build the soil with goodies and microbes, seeds germinate, plants thrive and away we go and grow.  Healthy food for Panama!

Examining the Construction

One of the goals for Finca Santa Marta is to be a teaching farm.  So as we learn, we share this knowledge with others, and the cycle continues.
